Journalist Mark Halperin — who has featured here many times as the object of my scorn for his misogyny — has been accused by five women of sexual harrassment.
Veteran journalist Mark Halperin sexually harassed women while he was in a powerful position at ABC News, according to five women who shared their previously undisclosed accounts with CNN and others who did not experience the alleged harassment personally, but were aware of it.I have no idea what that means, but it sure sounds like it's not good enough. Anyway.
"During this period, I did pursue relationships with women that I worked with, including some junior to me," Halperin said in a statement to CNN Wednesday night. "I now understand from these accounts that my behavior was inappropriate and caused others pain. For that, I am deeply sorry and I apologize. Under the circumstances, I'm going to take a step back from my day-to-day work while I properly deal with this situation."
This is what Mark Halperin thinks of women. As but one example. https://t.co/jDnnVHDSlf

At minimum, they will be obliged to navigate dehumanization in their workplace. They may also be abused by their coworker.

Tolerating any misogyny in a workplace tacitly communicates that harming women is okay. Abusers justify their abuse to themselves that way.

And if are themselves allowed to get away with misogynist jokes, comments, etc., they will escalate. ALL MISOGYNY PUTS WOMEN AT RISK.

If you're a dude who compartmentalizes misogynist "jokes" & "locker room talk" from interpersonal mistreatment of women, know abusers DON'T.
— Melissa McEwan (@Shakestweetz) October 26, 2017
Why? B/c the sort of casual misogyny of "I'd hit that" talk doesn't feature discussion of consent. It's not "I'd hit that IF SHE'S INTO IT."

Which is why it's important for every man who doesn't want women sexually abused to have a PERSONAL ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY on misogyny, too.
