Holy Maude, this fucking guy.
As I mentioned last Tuesday, up-and-coming Democratic superstar Stacey Abrams was selected by Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer to deliver the Democrats' rebuttal to Donald Trump's State of the Union address tonight. California Attorney General Xavier Becerra was also selected to deliver the Spanish-language Democratic response.
The SOTU rebuttal is a rough gig: It's a lowkey address spoken directly to a camera, following a presidential address in the House chamber constantly interspersed by thunderous applause. It's a huge responsibility (and a huge opportunity), with a lot of visibility (and a lot of scrutiny), which has often resulted in scathing reviews. It's not easy to hit a homer. If anyone can do it, Abrams and Becerra can.
And of course Bernie Sanders will be stepping all over them, because he's announced that he's yet again going to deliver his own rebuttal to the SOTU.
Sanders' rebuttal will stream after Abrams' and Becerra's rebuttals, so naturally we're supposed to be grateful for his magnanimity and not view it as a white man once again trying to get the last word after a Black woman and Latino man have said their pieces.
I'm just so tired of Sanders and his bullshit. I'm tired of his using Democratic resources and infrastructure when it suits him (like when he ran for president in 2016 as a Democrat and every time he's run for the Senate) and then undermining the Democratic Party when it suits him (like virtually every other moment when he's not campaigning).
I'm tired of his ego, and I'm tired of narratives that he's "tone deaf" when he pulls shit like this. He's not "tone deaf." He's a deliberate, calculated asshole who doesn't think that anything any marginalized person has to say could possibly be as important as the same crusty old speech he's been delivering for as long as I've been alive.
Millionaires and billionaires! Yeah, Bernie. We know.
