Ooh, good question!
I was surprised by how much I liked Dirty John. After I finished it, I saw that the family at the center of the story had been heavily involved with and pleased by the production, and I'm sure that had a lot to do with why I liked it. It did not feel exploitative, as many true crime stories do.
On the other hand, I have tried to get into Orphan Black three different times, and it just isn't clicking with me for some reason. It seems perfectly tailored to my tastes, and I adore Tatiana Maslany, and friends who tend to like the same things I do just rave about it, but, I can't explain it, it's just not for me.
